Regina Murphy pursued many creative projects early in her life, but since discovering fine art, it has been her passion. She has explored many different media and styles through the years, but has now settled on painting, which she does on either canvas or paper, using oil or acrylic paints. She labels her work a blend of abstraction and realism. Nature has always been her primary subject and her best known works are her very colorful and vivid landscapes. Her most recent works are experimental and can be colorful or muted, depending on where the experiment leads.
Regina Murphy’s art has been in numerous exhibitions all over the country including California, Kansas, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Wisconsin, and countless exhibitions in Oklahoma. Many of her works have received considerable acclaim and awards. Additionally, Murphy and/or her work have been featured in 13 different publications over the past 25 years.
Regina Murphy has resided in Oklahoma since 1945 and, since then, has served the arts community through her membership in many arts organizations. She has served as past President, Vice President of membership, Vice President of workshops, and Chairperson of the National Watercolor Oklahoma Exhibition for the Oklahoma Watercolor Association. She has served as Treasurer, Secretary, newsletter editor, and Director of the Oklahoma Art Guild. She has served as the long time Treasurer of the Paseo Arts Association. For the past 25 years, she has served consecutively in some capacity for the Oklahoma Watermedia Association as well as for the Contemporary Art Gallery. Murphy is also a member of Individual Artists of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Visual Artists Coalition.
In the past 40+ years, Regina Murphy’s art has been acquired by collectors from all over the country. She has completed commissions for many individuals as well as organizations and corporations. Among others, her work is in the following public and corporate collections: Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK; Bethany City Hall, Bethany, OK; Big Horn Institute, Palm Desert, CA; City of Indian Wells, CA; Dean Witter, Oklahoma City, OK; Havenyeild Tree Farm, Oklahoma City, OK; Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, Shawnee, OK; Merrill Lynch, Oklahoma City, OK; Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement Service; Presbyterian Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK; State of Oklahoma permanent Art Collection; University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma.
