Dr. Sandy Martin

Dr. Sandy Martin has worked and consulted in her field for more than 20 years and, in addition to full-time teaching responsibilities, she continues to serve as a consultant in public relations and advertising for regional and national companies and agencies. Past and current clients include McDonald’s, Lear Jet, Quaker, Weight Watchers, and United States Paint and Chemical.
Dr. Martin received her B.A. in Journalism and Art from Oklahoma City University in 1964 and M.S. in Advertising and Journalism Management from Oklahoma State University in 1967. She is the former Head of Marketing and Communications at Oklahoma City University, where she led the department from its inception to become the largest undergraduate major in the College of Arts and Sciences. She now teaches advertising and public relations courses at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Dr. Martin has worked in advertising agencies in Chicago, Oklahoma City, and Dallas. She is a member of the Kappa Tau Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. She has served on the board of directors of the Oklahoma City Advertising Club and of the Society of Professional Journalists. She advised student teams in the American Advertising Federation national competition for 12 years. During that time, the teams that she advised set a record for finishing among the top three positions for 10 consecutive years.
Dr. Martin has been recognized for her achievements on numerous occasions throughout her career. In 1990, she was named the recipient of the Sears Teaching Excellence Award. In 1991, she received The Fred Jones Teaching Excellence Award and was named the American Advertising Federation’s Tenth District Educator of the Year. In 2006, she was named to Outstanding Teachers in America and was listed in Marquee’s Who’s Who. In 2007, she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award from Oklahoma City University.
As a volunteer for the Paseo Arts Association, Martin has advised and consulted with the Marketing and Public Relations Committee and assisted in the development of the upcoming rebranding campaigns and the development of new programs and services.
