A family Halloween creative event!
A Magic Lantern Celebration
On the Paseo (NW 30th and Dewey)
Sunday, October 28th
3:00-7:00pm
The young and young at heart are invited to come to Paseo for a magical afternoon and evening. The galleries on Paseo transform into workstations where creative minds are encouraged to create costumes that will transform them into a magical being of their choice. As the sun sets, the music starts and a performer from Theater Upon a StarDanceSwan will lead the children in a parade down Paseo that ends in a winding labyrinth where other performers are dancing on top of pumpkins. The evening ends with an enchanting performance by the Theater Upon a StarDanceSwan dancers. This program is offered free of charge to anyone who wants to expand their imagination.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. StarDanceSwan is a non-profit organization; a donation would be appreciated.

The Magic Lantern Celebration on Paseo
Spark imagination on Halloween afternoon at the Magic Lantern Celebration on Paseo! Paseo artists open their doors to encourage wonder on Sunday, October 28 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. This event offers a unique twist to an old tradition, a time of light instead of fright when children can jump into their own creativity and have fun doing it!
Children are invited to stage a fall extravaganza inspired by pumpkins. Young people of all ages are encouraged to come to Paseo in their everyday clothing to make their own original costumes, lanterns and dance.
Everybody will start with the question , "What characters might be hiding in a pumpkin patch - maybe black birds, cats, pumpkin people?" In answer to this question, children then explore possibilities. Up and down the street, "playshops" are waiting with paper, pumpkins, shine and glitz to inspire works of art. Children can walk from studio to studio to build their costumes. In the spirit of Fall, children "activate", crumpling, tearing, and twisting paper into wearable art. Pumpkin Faces glow and wishes grow.
"For me ,Magic Lantern Celebration goes beyond what is ordinary"says Lorrie Keller of Theatre Upon a StarDanceSwan and designer of the event. "We shine when our creativity is sparked. Our celebration encourages this to happen in each child. Their natural creativity wakes up as they work with the materials and discover unique ways to transform themselves into make believe characters. Children work side by side with artists in the creative process. Parents are encouraged to help their children. Everyone shares fascination as authentic characters materialize."
The" Pumpkin Spin n’ Sparkle", a grand folly brings everyone together for a costume parade and impromptu dance on the street. At twilight, musician Steve McLinn and the dancers of StarDanceSwan promise a merry dance to bring a giant pumpkin labyrinth to life.
Rain or shine, the Magic Lantern Celebration is free to the public. Donations are appreciated to help with the costs of the event. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Activities begin at the north end of Paseo at NW 30th and Dewy. The Magic Lantern Celebration is made possible by the Oklahoma Arts Council, Paseo Arts Association and Theatre Upon a StarDanceSwan.
